7251 101 SanO date?? 1 012 Jan 28, 2007 2007-01-28T14:27:37-0500 Thinking about it today, could be time to select a date. We need to get it on everyone's calendars ASAP as we don't conflict with other stuff going on in people's lives and we get our campground reservations. DPracker also needs to know when we are coming to make sure the place is nice and tidy! Usual "rules" apply: Weekend after Labor Day is the Annual San O Surf Club contest - don't even think about it First weekend in October is usually the Roxy Wahine Classic. Can be fun, but they block off the main reef for the rest of us. September 15th or 22nd would be my vote. 29th would also work, but not for me, but you guys decide. GT "

7254 101 SanO date?? 4 nedsurf Jan 29, 2007 2007-01-28T23:32:08-0500 Seems that 3rd week of Sept we get kind of snake bit with poor surf. Either the 15 or 22 works for me, but maybe try the 15th this year? Just happens to be my birthday . If GT can't make the 29th then let's not do it. You won't be able to make camp reservations until 7 months in advance, so mark March 1st as the day to call for Sept reservations.
7255 101 SanO date?? 5 NJ Longboarder Jan 29, 2007 2007-01-29T00:30:27-0500 The 15th would work for me. My sister's b-day is Sept 21st and my mom's is the 23rd. That weekend is always a family get together and is why I missed last year.
7256 101 SanO date?? 6 Benny Jan 29, 2007 2007-01-29T01:33:57-0500 I like the 15th better too. Slightly better chance of warm weather & cleaner summer surf (plus I won't have the Back-to-School-Night conflict). And maybe Mrs. GT will make some more bacon. Mmmmmm.....bacon.

7270 101 SanO date?? 12 TSaunders Jan 30, 2007 2007-01-29T22:55:07-0500 I am with Dan. I would like it a little later so I might be able to come with Austin this time. Leaving for a week only two weeks after I get my new class is a little scary. I wouldn't have had enough time to beat the little nose miners into submission yet. Troy
7271 101 SanO date?? 13 lonedog Jan 30, 2007 2007-01-30T01:59:55-0500 well, as has been the case for the last few years everyone seems to have some sort of conflict with a particular date or the other. it's still January so there is plenty of time to convince your entire extended family that the reunion would be better in October etc. it takes a commitment (especially for you east coast sukkas!!) to be at San-O 07, so make it. Out of respect for BOSS, the San-O weekend Grand PohBah, i think (unless 50 knuckleheads can actually agree on a date) that he has the final call, within reason of course. i'm good for any weekend in Sept, ....except the weekend of the ...... ned, don't forget the roxy pad!!

Actually this perpetual trophy was awarded to mhc904 last year. He will need to bring it to present to a deserving receipient at this year's gathering. For those concerned about the weather, my favorite months are Sept and Oct. Generally the weather is fine, the water temp is pretty constant so a week or two probably won't make much difference. Having said that a series of rain storms or unusual weather is always a possibility, but since we can't predict it just pick a weekend that works best for the most. BOSS and fellow Texans need to be there to make up for almost abandoning us last year (Miles held up the Lone Star honor). Hope we can have a record crowd this year.
7273 101 SanO date?? 15 Miles Jan 30, 2007 2007-01-30T08:36:07-0500 The Roxy Pad and I are in whenever you guys decide. My only decision will be driving or flying. I can see taking off a week and ferrying the NJ boys and the PR contingent down from the airport in San Jose (near Santa Cruz) to San Diego, hitting surfshops and surfbreaks on the way building up to a final blowout over stone stew at San Mateo. 7306 101 SanO date?? 35 longboardmaster Jan 31, 2007 2007-01-31T04:55:30-0500 We are going to try and make it out to SanO this year. Also, we've been thinking of having an east coast event, similar to SanO. Converge in Cape Hatteras, as we believe it to be consistently some of the best surf on the east coast. The best swells are in the late summer and fall, but the water temps usually hold into the low 70s, as late as mid October. Any traction for an idea of holding SanO Weekend during odd years, and a Hatteras Weekend in even years? Thoughts?

7314 101 SanO date?? 41 little AL Jan 31, 2007 2007-01-31T10:43:29-0500 I'm with 10toes I have never surfed the east coast, I don't know if I would be able to take time off to go to both, but who knows. If I do go to the east coast someone else will have to do the cooking there.
7318 101 SanO date?? 42 longboardmaster Feb 1, 2007 2007-02-01T00:37:18-0500 Norfolk airport in Virginia is about 2.5 hours north of Cape Hatteras. Billy Mitchell airport is a small airstrip (no tower) on Hatteras Island, for small planes, but puts you right at ground zero. There are several ferries that operate to/from Hatteras and Okracoke island from North Carolina mainland. The consistent spot is by the lighthouse on the northside of the island, near the point. When it's firing it's primarily a big, beefy left with plenty of power. From there you can usually find breaks south or north, and in some areas can take vehicles on the beach. If it's onshore on the southside, it will be almost always offshore on the northside, and vice versa. All the breaks are beach breaks, sand bottom. The whole island is national park seashore, so aside from the existing villages, there is no development. There are four or five good campgrounds too, maybe the best at Frisco among the dunes and seaoats. After Labor Day, the place is fairly empty, except for fishermen, so accomodations are easily had at off-season prices. Some restaurants and shops close down in Jan/Feb, but many remain open all year. Many times we've been there floating in the lineup on the south side and as far as we could see, nobody on the beach or in the water, except us. The weather and water temps stay warm through mid to late October.

April 1st was 90+% and May 6th if poured rain and was freezing, DOH. all these years later and i have trouble remembering when our anniversary is.

DOH in May is hard to come by on the West Coast so I would surely remember that date. By the way I'm sorry I did not call/make contact with you while I was down your way. But I still owe you a drink. See you at SanO I hope. AL lonedog wrote: benny wrote-Your brother should get married on the 15th. You guys could remind each other of your anniversaries. 7405 101 SanO date?? 74 little AL Feb 21, 2007 2007-02-21T00:36:49-0500 Hey lonedog stay away from the knife as long as you can. I was having trouble with my sholder a few years back my Doc told me that as we age the bones don't move as smoothly as they once did, more like sandpaper on sandpaper where they use to be like glass on glass. I kept up the pills Montrn for like 2 years always had some in my system and the pain slowly went away. Only problem being that I had to stay from the ice tea, so as you can now see the pain is gone. If I were you I would cut that fin off, put a box in and put a cut away on that board, it would make it much looser and nose ride like it was ment to. I really can't tell much differance between fins eather, shit at 230lbs how can you tell the differance between a fin that is 10' or one that is 10.5 inches. But don't mess with my rails.

After a long day beating up my body a few beers and sleep works for me. What is a few beers? my wife sometimes asks. A few is more than a couple, but may be the same as a couble, or at least three to a dozen. Just wanted that to be clear.

I think many thought that it would be best for those of you that have to travel to try to come up with the date best for you. I believe that a lot of us don't really have a hard preference, and are leaving it up to you guys that have travel/family/personal issues to try to sort it out. As for me, about any date is fine, but if it is the 15th I want a birthday cake/beer. It ain't just old guys that are weird, we've just had more time to perfect it.

7445 101 SanO date?? 98 nedsurf Feb 23, 2007 2007-02-22T23:00:03-0500 I doubt it in that their first baby is due on April 1 and he may have other priorities. He really enjoyed meeting everyone last year. Great group of folks. One thought for those making camping reservations - if you can try to not get sites right next to the camp hosts. They were sort of jerks last year, calling the cops on our group while at the same time they continued their little convention on the other side of their mobile home. They were next to Al's site, so if Al remembers his site number that might be info worth sharing.
