The older I get, the thinner my hair gets, and the more I like surfing in a hat. It keeps my scalp from getting burned, and it's nice in the morning. (Don't worry though, I only wear it when doing spinners at my secret spot.) I definitely notice people looking at the hat when I first paddle out. However, the level of acceptance of my hat seems directly proportional to how I'm surfing, at least in my own head. If I'm surfing well, I feel like I've earned enough cred to wear what I please. If I'm surfing lousy that day, I feel like the hat is like the cherry atop a kook sundae. |
