50400 542 The Joel Tudor vs. Joe Aaron thing 88 Ticowannabe Aug 6, 2013 2013-08-06T09:45:37-0400 surferchic5555 wrote: I have met Joe Aaron several times over the years at an annual amateur beach film festival. He & his younger brother would submit videos they shot & edited & they were always spectacular. Joe & his bro were always respectful, intelligent, articulate, engaging, polite, and extremely grateful for any kind words people said to them. It was not an act. Their behavior was genuine. I was very impressed by this as most teenagers - especially ones way more talented than their peers - can often act like jerks. Their father was there pushing autographed posters & he couldn't understand why I kept saying no thank you to one. (I was like 35 years old - what was I gonna do with it? Hang it up in my room?) Joe Aaron's surfing is some of the most unreal skills & talent I've seen in a very long time - dare I say since Tudor - or Knost. This video of Joel vs Joe is stupid because if Joe wants an invite from Joel, he should try a friendly conversation, not an adversarial tact. Maybe he tried other ways & was ignored so now he's trying to create conflict to get attention? Again - doesn't seem wise IMO. Joe Aaron is also an artist, musician, shaper, etc. He's got a lot of tricks in his bag - loads of talent. That Mondrian thing is just his signature look I suppose, as it is present on his boards, paintings, etc. I've never been fond of top hats. But whatevs to each his own I guess. As a side note - the first time I ever saw Tudor out surfing, he was cursing F this F that all over the place. Just gave me an impression he was really bitter or rude or thought he was so cool. It was a turn off. Complete opposite of my first meeting with Joe Aaron. Click to expand... SC5555, the above pretty much illustrates my feelings on the topic but i, like most, don't have any personal insight or contact so it's good to hear. 1. Kids a surfer...hell that's off center already 2. Kids an artist....see above 3. Kids a kid...more of the above As an older guy it always surprises me when i see how judgmental we can be on here regarding other surfers lifestyles...goddamn hipsters, goddamn style...as if we really know it from some clips etc... really reminds me of my dad back in the day...goddamn hippeis... goddamn hair... goddamn music pro surfers have always been an 1/8 off bubble...going for a look and an attitude to differentiate themselves from a lot of the rest of the culture ...to me this s&*t is no different (except for the very few super good surfers who did not want to make their living doing it) hell even Duke whored himself out a bit...ok a lot ...and i idolize him ...hell deify (can those 2 words go together?) comparison video, cheesy, but it has us talking about him (even bad press...) Damn...i wish i could surf like Joe...maybe without the ballet...but i'd keep the pelvic thrusts in my routine and the Fabio hair flips...chicks dig it
