50390 542 The Joel Tudor vs. Joe Aaron thing 81 Guest Aug 6, 2013 2013-08-06T07:06:36-0400 surferchic5555 wrote: I have met Joe Aaron several times over the years at an annual amateur beach film festival. He & his younger brother would submit videos they shot & edited & they were always spectacular. Joe & his bro were always respectful, intelligent, articulate, engaging, polite, and extremely grateful for any kind words people said to them. It was not an act. Their behavior was genuine. I was very impressed by this as most teenagers - especially ones way more talented than their peers - can often act like jerks. Their father was there pushing autographed posters & he couldn't understand why I kept saying no thank you to one. (I was like 35 years old - what was I gonna do with it? Hang it up in my room?) Joe Aaron's surfing is some of the most unreal skills & talent I've seen in a very long time - dare I say since Tudor - or Knost. This video of Joel vs Joe is stupid because if Joe wants an invite from Joel, he should try a friendly conversation, not an adversarial tact. Maybe he tried other ways & was ignored so now he's trying to create conflict to get attention? Again - doesn't seem wise IMO. Joe Aaron is also an artist, musician, shaper, etc. He's got a lot of tricks in his bag - loads of talent. That Mondrian thing is just his signature look I suppose, as it is present on his boards, paintings, etc. I've never been fond of top hats. But whatevs to each his own I guess. As a side note - the first time I ever saw Tudor out surfing, he was cursing F this F that all over the place. Just gave me an impression he was really bitter or rude or thought he was so cool. It was a turn off. Complete opposite of my first meeting with Joe Aaron. Click to expand... Never met Joe Aaron but Joel is cool. You may have caught him on a bad day. Shared waves with him in Cardiff and at La Jolla Shores on more than one occasion and he has always been gracious, shared waves, and talked story. A lot of people have said similar things about Skip. Same with him. After talking with him several times and sharing waves and showing respect you get to see how they really are. Skip is a good guy too.
