What path would you recommend to learn to play golf? I have gone to a driving range a couple of times. Take lessons at the driving range? Sign up for a series of lessons at a (public) golf course? Watch YouTube videos? All the above -something else? Also I've been told it's all about the short game and putting -too much emphasis is wasted on driving - so concentrate on the short game. Is that mostly true? Thanks guys. Click to expand... IMO it really can vary, especially depending on your goals. Many people (former baseball players mainly) find it pretty easy to hit a ball well, it's the getting it to go straight that takes some practice/ replacing old baseball swing muscle memory with 'golf swing'. Figuring out your swing/how far you hit can be done at the range without any lessons, especially with what information/tips are available online . Playing mainly at executive/par 3 courses until you are comfortable with your irons before advancing to needing to hit the driver every hole will definitely help. And buy cheap (used) balls, they wont last more than a few holes for the first year or two. If you want faster results 1 v 1 lessons at the range with someone who takes the swing you have and works to improve it, but it can be pricey. While scores are definitely made with the short game, if you cant hit it well and straight (ish) off the tee you will be in for a helluva day. Worst case track down the cart girl for a round and always remember a day on the course is better than a day in the office
