I know a lot of you guys have some solid and diverse quivers so I thought it would be an interesting thought experiment to see what everyone would choose. Please provide a little bit of insight on your choices if you have time to. 1 Board Quiver: 5'8'' Gary Hanel Pill Its a quad groveller with bonzer concave. Nice tuned rails. It is the most versatile and alive board I've ever surfed. Fun in knee high slop and can handle double over head just fine when you put a bigger set of fins in it. As close of a mix of a HPSB groveller and a fish as you can get. Can handle a surprisingly big and powerfully wave for what it is. 3 Board Quiver: 9'4'' Jim Phillips SWT. This may change in the future because I'm searching for something new, but until I find that this board is a great and fast nose rider that can handle the most gutless surf to shoulder high and lined up. A great log for what its meant for. 5'10'' Michael Miller Fish. Fantastic average to good wave keel fish and can be surfed as hard as I am capable of surfing it. Has a smoothness and glide that I haven't felt in another board. Refer to my review of it the the board review section if you want to know more. But the less you wiggle around on this board and the more you read the wave and place it in the right spot the better. Let the board do the work for you. It's incredibly rewarding to surf like that. 5'10'' Gary Hanel Diet/Super Pill. Its the same basic design as the 5'8'' pill but stretched out and thinned out. It has ability in low quality surf but surfs very well in the average to big surf. This board would cover the ground of step up/shortboard, while still retaining a lot of speed and glide that aren't usually associated with those shapes. 5 Board Quiver: 9'4'' Jim Phillips SWT - see above. 9'6'' Velzy Pig. The pig offers something different its not a nose rider but its still a long board. It can surf a much wider range of surf than the SWT. It kind of feels like a mix between a glider and a mid length, but at the same time it is really neither of those. All and all it is something very unique and a special board. Having two different flavours of longboard is really fun and a Pig vs a small wave nose rider is a fun juxtaposition. 5'10'' Micheal Miller Fish. - See Above 6'2'' ...Lost Round Up. Some times I want to attempt to drift the fins and do airs. I'm mostly unsuccessful. The 5th board is a toss up between the 5'8'' GH Pill and some kind of 7' midlength. When I have the choice of the surfing the Pill or something else I usually go for something else but there is no denying how fun and versatile it is. The joys of surfing a mid length are real though and I'd probably go with a Gary Hanel 7'2 Dew Drop 2+1. Same kind of idea as surfing the Micheal Miller Fish, do less & surf better, but the feeling of a deeper single or 2+1 fin setup is different enough and requires a different approach that it would ultimately find a place in this quiver. Click to expand... You got good taste. Those pills are some of the best riding sleds out there. My 5'5" gets a lot of action. |
