Few years back, while road tripping down the coast with my wife, we ran into Greg Noll and his wife in a Crescent City beach diner, and it turned into a 2 hour story down lunch, while he told some hella great stories, including some hilarious ones about Dora. One story, however, was about some 'scumbag' (his words) socal shaper who during the 90's was shaping Da Cat models and selling them as authentic, hustling he was Greg's official outlet for them. A local detective, who was also a core surfer, got wind of it and contacted Greg. By the time Greg got the scam shut down with the detectives assistance, over 30 fakes had been sold. Wonder how many of those fakes are being proudly displayed today on some collectors wall, who thought he had paid for the real deal.. |
