Click to expand... for true popouts, always comes comes down to the rails, which will have a prominent ridge at the rail apex where the top and bottom shells that had been 'popped out' of the molds were fitted together. And use of 'faux' stringers was easily recognizable - pretty much just exposed veneer strips with no depth. Popouts were soon replaced with production boards like Dextra and the Duke K in the referenced CL ad, then thankfully went the way of the dinosaur once enough shapers emerged to meet market demands. Long live the custom surfboard..
