108359 501 what are people listening to today? 1676 icecreamheadache Dec 15, 2016 2016-12-15T11:17:52-0500 I offer for your humble consideration, viking metal. For one, the songs all sound like surfing heavy logs... all grace and beauty before heavy, chugging brutality. Two, there are heaps of references to waves and wind and the sea. And raiding. And pillaging. And three, nothing will help you make that long ass section quite like the reverberation in your ears of 10,000 Chicano kids shouting along with a band of middle aged Swedes "Odin! Guide our ships! Our axes, spears and swords! Guide us through storms that whip and in brutal war!" Though truth be told, pity the poor fool who drops in on some over-caffeinated logger with nothing to live for who has these songs of battle coursing through hir (I learned a new possessive pronoun this week!) head as ze (also a non-possessive pronoun!) guides hir 38 pound surfcraft down the line towards Valhalla... Amon Amarth. Live in LA. The first song is "The Pursuit of Vikings" which certainly would have beat out that dreary song by The Sandals for the theme to The Endless Summer had mid-century American culture provided Bruce Brown with such high art.
