I'd say, reasonably, most people could afford a couple of bucks a month. Say an annual of $24? I mean, owning a website is a giant PIA. $24 per year from each member here? Even half that will generate more money than these ads, I would think? Whatever the the total ad numbers are divided by, say 2/3rds of the number of active Jammers (figuring 1/3 are too cheap or it doesn't matter enough to them to stay) will render an annual number per person. Then add something for LBM for s&*ts and giggles; to buy a beer and a sandwich or a Mercedes if the member number is high enough... Whatever... Easy enough annual figure to come up with. if LBM will accept a referendum on the matter, I'm down for an annual fee. If some folks seriously can't afford it then maybe a donation link for "scholarships?" Who knows. Just not ads. Please. Heck, I don't do Fathers Day, Easter, or any other heavily commercialized holiday (unless my family would hang me high for not doing it) just because of the fact that commercialization, and Hallmark, have ruined every good notion of celebrating family and so on. Prefer to appreciate others on days it isn't expected... So: you got to pay to play and I'm down for keeping this site privatized. While I'm on that, let's talk paying taxes for schools. My step kids (no, not mine - my fouled genetic line ends with me and the world, current and future, is far better off for it)... Gotcha. Not getting into political s&*te here. Just saying that if you are a driver who wants to use the faster, HOV lane in Florida, you have to pay for the privilege. No ads on a non-commercial website? Fine. Just pay up. So, LBM, how much per year to get rid of the anxiety bordering on panic that these infernal ads are causing me? (and no, I am not bothering with some sort of ad blocker - I'm on a phone most of the time I'm looking here and those ad blockers block good s&*t too). Pay money, I stay. Ads, I go. Facebook sign-ins, I go... I dunno, anyone want an iPhone 6-plus? I think I'll go back to a beeper. Actually, f#%k humanity, I'll go back to a rotary phone. s&*t, I already throw all my mail out. Period. Never makes it to my eyes. I'm thinking of mounting a trash can under my mailbox and cutting out the bottom of the box. It'd be easier. 99% of that s&*t is s&*t. My wife insists on a landline. Nobody ever calls on it except sales people. Sales people are a pox on humanity. Along with politicians. Which brings me to the presidential race... Okay, not really. Just cue up a YouTube of George Carlin: Bulls&*t is Everywhere. Enough said. The man is still on target many moons after his death. So, to make a long point even longer: I value this site and LBMs work enough to pay what it takes to keep this site, sans ads, running at a cost that LBM (a gracious and generous fellow) sees fit. I would hope others here are on board with that. TANSTAAFL principle, everybody. s&*t, if you truly can't afford it, I'll help you out. |
