I took out my 10 ft Wilson Butternut. I hadn't ridden that board in almost two years, and what a difference that two years made in my skill level and ability to ride it. Whereas in the past I was constantly nosediving, I have now started to master the angled takeoff and had some really fun rides. I also did something I have never done before -- I stayed on a high line and right inside the pocket. I fell off when I tried to get up on the nose, but it was a very different feeling from the rides I have been getting on my Austin stubby, which, for me, tends to outrun the wave. I think at 10ft that board is a little more than I need, but had lots of fun and looking forward to next weekend, when I can ride it some more. Click to expand... Nice, Newlyn! Funny how a little time and more experience can give you new perspective on a board. Keep at it with that Butternut. You may be surprised how much you might grow into it. |
