187626 9125 Show us yer Glider! 1 endoftheroad Oct 22, 2020 2020-10-21T21:47:17-0400 Gliders are what brought me to this forum, and there doesn’t seem to be a picture oriented thread- so let’s catalog as many as possible here.. Show your big boards, and share a word or three if you like.. I’ve posted this somewhere, but I’ll start with my 11’ Jim Phillips Ka Po’e Ae’a. It’s my second JP 11’0”. This one has his ‘Hawaiian’ rocker, and is a double step deck. Only 3” on stringer and is pretty sporty and works in a wide range of conditions. Please show all of your cool glides please!

Bought from a Jammer, sold to a Jammer (only sold to raise funds to buy my wife a special 65th birthday gift), and was lucky enough to be able to buy it back. Paddles well, catches everything, and surfs extremely well. I've been riding it almost exclusive since getting it back. Foam is addictive.

I’m personally not sure after having several boards with different dimension, which is the faster paddler. A board that’s narrow, or a board that’s wider? Narrow board due to its sleek outline and less resistance, or a wider board due to it's increased planing area? What’s the consensus here (providing the rocker approx the same on both designs)?

Vee in the front 18" to a deep single to a deep double out the tail, almost like a very shallow channel(s) running down 85% of the board. Any feedback or suggestions on these shapes in this range would be great to hear. Cheers!

Super responsive, even at full throttle! I would have gone a bit longer but 10'6 was the most I could store at the time. At 10'6 though it strikes the right balance between weight and rail line. Glides with the best of them but it's still fairly easy to get it out in the bigger stuff. In fact, the bigger it gets the better it goes! So long as it's clean it will handle anything that my sphincter will allow!

Click to expand... In theory yes... in practice at this time not necessarily. I placed an order for a Serena in early March, decided to add a McVee in late April. Marc said he likes to knock them out at the same time and will have both ready for me when the Serena was originally estimated to be completed. It didn't work out quite like that because of the material and labor shortages due to covid. I got the Serena about 6 months after my original order, and I'm picking up the McVee next week. Definitely slower than expected but it was totally out of Marc's control and he communicated great throughout. So yeah... in theory yes, in practice maybe not really

Zooms down the line at sano and turns real well with a flex fin. 9'8. Really wanna get something above the 10' range before next summer. Living in Santa Cruz currently but I surf down south a lot and a glider would be epic for summer.

189295 9125 Show us yer Glider! 73 JMJackFish Nov 14, 2020 2020-11-14T05:14:04-0500 My Fish Simmons is a different animal to me compared to my gliders. It seems to be more versatile on the wave types we have here. Also as strange as it sounds it surfs more like a shorter board and will do much better turns. The fins on my fish simmons are 101 thrusters, so that may be one of the main factors. It is at the top of boards I have ever owned - hands down.
189297 9125 Show us yer Glider! 74 DJR Nov 14, 2020 2020-11-14T06:54:38-0500 And to add to @JMJackFish my fish Simmons was a 9' Hall same set up and it surfed much larger less than perfect waves than most gliders And extremely nimble for such a large board especially useful in less than stellar conditions I second that they are completely different animals

Terry holding my just completed 11’0” custom Legacy. 11’ x 17.5 x 24 x 16.5 x 3 3/8. We talked extensively about every aspect of this shape, extra tail kick, extra tail width, rails foiled thin 50/50 just like I asked; every dim was hit to less than a the tenth of an inch. Nine years later it’s still my favorite board ever. The glide is spectacular but the turnability is the sign of a genius shaper. Glassed like a boss at Bashams with 2x8oz+1x8oz over a US Terry 11’2” classic weight blank. About 30 lbs. Love at first slide.

A 12'0" GP Surfboards out of Capitola (near Santa Cruz), it's another surprisingly turnable beast and because of a lighter blank (and like the Terry, 8oz volan sked) it's super sensitive and responsive. It was a personal board for Nick (P of GP) Palandrani that he told me surfed in mammoth waves either at or near Ghost Tree. It moved from there to being hung in a SC restaurant for years; then somehow Miles ended up with it and I eventually got my hands upon it. Also pretty foiled with a very slight downrail in the tail. Though it has concave in the nose, I'll admit I haven't gotten my little piggies hanging yet but Nick recommended a serious D fin or larger rudder if I wanted that action. Stoked with the glide. Ridden both the Terry and the GP in overhead waves with no problem and they performed admirably. PS: The Pearson on the left was a great board but traded it to get back an old fave.
