102128 498 Andreini Stoke 209 xyzzy Aug 25, 2016 2016-08-25T12:16:21-0400 I just ordered a 7'2 Vaquero to match my 9'0 Serena, changed up the black pinline a bit this time..., should be sweet!
102190 498 Andreini Stoke 210 Big D Aug 26, 2016 2016-08-26T06:28:10-0400 Is this a serena or modified smaller glider? His tail widths seem to vary on the serenas I've noticed from more ultra pintails to more modified rounded pins. Love the look of this outline. xyzzy wrote: Finally picked up this beauty today at Marc's.. 9'0, retro tint, black pin line... gorgeous Click to expand...
102276 498 Andreini Stoke 211 xyzzy Aug 28, 2016 2016-08-28T07:44:16-0400 Serena pin-tail. 9'0. It goes, and has handled anything I'm willing to paddle it into. Love it! A little bit of an optical illusion since the fin is elevating the tail in that picture. The wide point is definitely forward. I'll try and get some more pix next time I have it out.
102786 498 Andreini Stoke 212 Big D Sep 3, 2016 2016-09-03T10:53:24-0400 Just mailed him deposit with an order. Spoke with him via email as I was spending too much time contemplating between a vaquero and serena. In short I gave him my height, weight, age, experience, and sent him the attached pic of myself and said I'd be using the board in mostly surf like this. His feedback was the Serena all the way with specific dimensions. I told him the check is in the mail. Now…the waiting game. Attached files

107048 498 Andreini Stoke 222 Knots Nov 4, 2016 2016-11-04T16:00:14-0400 Can we talk EDGE board for a sec? Marc says "A feeling like no other." in the post sonOsea mentioned on Marc's IG. Ok,,, I'm listening. See the KP versions and the husband & wife-Mandala/Furrow shapes as well. The TSJ article didn't really grab my attention (good read, but...I do believe the featured pilot could rip riding a popsicle stick) but it seems that there really is something to these. Anyone in the Jamboards family riding these? Surfed one? Just a fad, or something worthy of deeper investigation. Pilgrim in NYC has a 6'9" listed at $1400..... Ouch! Aloha!
107065 498 Andreini Stoke 223 pilau Nov 5, 2016 2016-11-05T08:06:12-0400 I'm with you. Rasta seemed kinda "meh" on the shapes in that TSJ article. Sent some emails back and forth with Manny. He's made some tweaks and is really stoked on the deal. I'm still not convinced this is more than a fad.

107127 498 Andreini Stoke 225 Fishy Nov 10, 2016 2016-11-10T10:40:04-0500 Looking for some insight. I'm interested in getting a Serena for bigger days in North County SD. I've been thinking 8'0" to 8'8" Serena and am pretty confident this would be a good call. Seems like at this length I'd get in early but still be able to tuck into a bigger walled up wave and carve relatively tight turns. I have a McVee on order with Marc already for small waves and am not expecting to see it anytime soon, so not looking to go custom. Not in a huge rush, but I just broke a board that I like for these conditions and got clearance to bring a new one into the house.... I may have a line on a 9'6" Serena, which is bigger than I'd planned, but is available now. So if any of you have first had experience to share with a big Serena vs. mid length, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
107128 498 Andreini Stoke 226 dtorrent Nov 10, 2016 2016-11-10T11:06:53-0500 My only experience is with my friend's 8'8 Serena. That board paddles into waves better than longboards 6 inches longer. Just magical combo of rocker, pulled-in nose, secret sauce etc makes catching waves a dream. You will be able to catch bombs outside! 8'8 seems to be a favored length for the Serena. I don't know, it just works!

I feel my 9'0 will go into anything I'm willing to paddle-into. It really fits into anything, seemingly better and tighter the steeper and more critical it gets. The hulled entry provides super smooth takeoffs.
107130 498 Andreini Stoke 228 Ticowannabe Nov 10, 2016 2016-11-10T12:00:30-0500 yep Marc says the 8'8 serena is the number. If i recall i am a bit bigger than both of you (F & DT) and have one and it is a fantastic board and more than enough length for what you describe the only relative longer comparison i could personally make is to the 10' hippy pin (different beast but really agile) i have and it is fantastic, but way more board than you or i would need for those conditions xy, i think you and i are close in size and have no doubt i would enjoy your 9'r for comparison: 10' hippy pin 8'8 serena

107134 498 Andreini Stoke 231 ekim Nov 10, 2016 2016-11-10T14:26:17-0500 Is a hippy pin a 10' Serena?
107137 498 Andreini Stoke 232 Ticowannabe Nov 11, 2016 2016-11-10T19:24:57-0500 short answer, i do not know and would love to hear from Marc. My Serena is in CR and i just got the 10' hippy pin so i have not had a chance to do a direct comparison, but my feeling is yes pretty close. Perhaps slightly less rocker on the Hippy pin (perhaps a function of length) a touch less shoulder and not quite as pulled in tail but that is really just a guess(the shoulder dif could just be because of the more pulled in tail of the serena). It is really lithe and a lot of fun in small surf and i know it will perform in larger point surf too. Beach break? maybe the right beach break better 10' HPin rocker shot
107212 498 Andreini Stoke 233 sonOsea Nov 16, 2016 2016-11-16T01:08:36-0500 Some words from Marc on the Edge... Edge Board A George Greenough design that can be adapted to most surfboards. Two surfboards in one: a narrow concave tow board with hard edges, nose to tail, is shaped underneath a displacement hull with full lifted rails. Works in all conditions even chop and wind. Excels as the power comes on. Good from 5'6 to 12'. Stubbies to guns. Pure genius. Thanks George http://andreinisurfboards.com/post/152999961620/george-greenoughs-edge-board-description-1969-to

I spent quite a bit of time with Marc at the SC boardroom show talking about the edge boards with him. His description of the type of waves we have up here in northern California was spot on, "they are shit!" So with all the edge board info he shared with me, by the time I left the show I had ordered an 8'8" Serena Edge. Then on my four hour drive home I talked myself into ordering another board, a 7'6" Vaquero Edge... I don't expect to have them until after the first of the year but I'll post up my impressions once I gettem wet.

I shot Marc a note with your question, this morning, Kiwi and this is the reply he sent us: "Yes it is. The outside rails are lifted all the way up to the deck, even higher than a stock hull. The center is concave to help travel over dead spots. The outer rails lift up to avoid catching in chop and also to allow a dramatic bank onto the rail turn." Hope this answers your question.

109075 498 Andreini Stoke 254 Planktom Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T16:05:04-0500 Surfing beach break that is occasionally well overhead in the winter, with few channel options, I wonder how the Serenas duck dive past a certain length? Or is it a case of gunning it in between sets and possibly diving under a couple when required? I'm asking as they seem to be in good favour with the Ocean Beach guys and I can (on a slightly less impressive scale) identify with the paddle battle/reward payoff at my local beach in winter.
109082 498 Andreini Stoke 255 hangten Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T16:52:00-0500 I can't duck dive my 8'9" Serena (I weigh about 160) and I have definitely been punished on the paddle out at big Rincon but I sure do love that board/wave combo. Timing is everything. Wait for a lull and haul ass.
109083 498 Andreini Stoke 256 xyzzy Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T16:54:46-0500 Agreed on the Serena/big beach break comments. You really just use the length to sprint out in a lull, and end up with serious paddle power to track one down outside. I think a pocket-rocket in a mid-6 may be an interesting option for a step-up... Havent been able to find much in terms of owner feedback yet though.. Best New Years Ever! Got the e-mail -- my 7'2 Vaquero is done.. picking it up Friday.. pix to follow! Yew!!

The word 'smooth' has been bandied about, and for good reason. Steep drops feel like elevator rides.
109151 498 Andreini Stoke 259 Knots Jan 5, 2017 2017-01-04T19:16:20-0500 Not lucky enough to own a Serena, yet... But have no problems duck diving my 8'3" Vaquero (me = 6' x 196lbs x 50yrs) Big days here also fail to offer many channels to slip out into the lineup and we also lack the good fortune of true long period swells. The 8'3" length is a decent paddler and an all around fun board to surf. Never fails me. Aloha

JBB's old board by way of Veterano then to me: @ 9'6. Had a blast today until leash broke and then a big swim. It was just floating there in a little bay inside waiting for me. Fun day today.

114231 498 Andreini Stoke 287 Dynaglyder Apr 24, 2017 2017-04-24T12:48:19-0400 I fetched this 10' Vaquero Edge board from Marc in January. Due to lousy conditions here in the Pacific Northwest, I have surfed it just a few times. It is much different from my other Vaquero but shown promise in crappy surf.

If its a custom stringerless vee bottom that a mutually known surf-maniac ordered up a few years back, then yes I know it well. It now calls my garage home. Fun to ride, loose as hell and an easy wave catcher makes it a keeper. You should drop by sometime and we'll slide a few. Got a feeling it would be a stoke-filled session. Remember: the West is the best, get here and we'll do the rest. You are more than welcome to join us, senor.

Single/double concave, single fin. Already booked the flight to Costa..

I'm not exactly sure, but it felt narrower than a log, but could be due to the rails. I'd say 22? maybe close to 23. The tint was absolutely stunning in person.

The shadows seem to show concave on either side of the stringer going out the back, making me think this is some experimental refinement of the edge concept.
