100034 2800 California - Second weekend in October 1 NJ Longboarder Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T13:19:59-0400 Flying out to watch old cars race on the beach in October. http://theraceofgentlemen.com/ All past trips have be into LAX and south so we are flying into San Fransisco to mix it up a bit and driving south. No exact plans yet, except to be in/around Pismo Beach Saturday/Sunday. Coming out early Friday and leaving Tuesday. Thinking about camping or renting an RV. Any good places to rent boards or what craigslist region should I search? Probably just drive around to find decent waves. Shouldn't be too hard. Anyone have any tips? Where to stay? Good food and/or drink spots? Wetsuits needed?
100036 2800 California - Second weekend in October 2 Stef Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T13:24:16-0400 pat, hit me up - I will hook you up with boards, I can set you in the direction to rent a suit and give you the low down on waves in my area (pacifica is 10 minutes south of san Francisco and about an hour north of santa cruz )
100040 2800 California - Second weekend in October 3 joeblackuz Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T14:22:42-0400 Also Im not sure about other cities law but in Los Angeles city overnight parking is now legal on the street if you get an RV. So that might be worth checking out. Also sent a PM.
100050 2800 California - Second weekend in October 4 Surfnfish Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T15:04:04-0400 If you go to SF OB in October, you may never drive another mile until it's time to haul ass, it's the start of Prime Time there. Highly recommend the Ocean Park motel, a very cool retro courtyard style motel on 46th ave, south end of OB, 10 min walk and you're paddling out. And just a couple minute walk to a great morning cafe, with a very good nearby neighborhood store as well. Water temps should be 56 - 58, air probably 75 to 80. 4/3 suit with booties the call.
100056 2800 California - Second weekend in October 5 NJ Longboarder Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T15:38:38-0400 Thanks for the info. Stef will send you pm tomorrow. Buddy coming with me still has the coop Malibu foil you sold him years ago. We decided to rent RV and have a spot covered near Pismo. Plan to be tourists the other days. Will bring wetsuits with us.

100060 2800 California - Second weekend in October 7 SMUKES Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T16:12:50-0400 That race is really fun, the best time for California too. Enjoy.
100071 2800 California - Second weekend in October 8 Dawnpatrol Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-25T21:42:21-0400 You my friend are in for a treat. Perhaps the most diverse coastline (for a State) in all of America! OB in SF will provide. But head south along the coast and the area of my youth and discover some real gems. The coastline from SF to Cayucos in October will provide you with some exceptional experiences. From mellow longboard mush to hollow barrels. Seek and you will find!
100074 2800 California - Second weekend in October 9 dogleg Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T02:39:15-0400 I'll be there with a few boards.
100083 2800 California - Second weekend in October 10 Wade In The Waves Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T05:29:10-0400 Check out Escape Camper Vans. Might be a good compromise between car and rv.

You make it sound like work. I always thought it would be cool just to see and hear all the vintage bikes and cars at this event...Trying to make a hole in my schedule for it right now... On the fence about riding down vs car though, would be several hours for me.
100129 2800 California - Second weekend in October 14 Stef Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T13:28:17-0400 ha i kinda did didn't i....back in the late 80's i use to do the all british ride up tam on easter morning (i am not sure if they still do it or if it has disolved to japanese bikes) but it was pretty cool to be on top of tam at sunrise with a bunch of revving bikes, i had friends that would pull out there vincents , brough superiors, ariel sq 4 etc.. just for the occasion, so yeah even to just go witness this i think would be cool. I just perused the gallery, i have some pictures of my grandpas in similar cars and somewhere i have a picture of my grandma riding a indian, sometimes I wish I was born in that era
100149 2800 California - Second weekend in October 15 sonOsea Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T16:54:51-0400 Awesome Stef! Mt Tam is always a favorite, and I understand your sentiments for that time period.
104010 2800 California - Second weekend in October 16 NJ Longboarder Sep 21, 2016 2016-09-21T04:40:14-0400 Thanks for the PMs with tips/suggestions. Getting close to go time and have some final questions. Board - Deciding between 5'10" bing dharma, 5'9" roberts diamond fish and 6'2" locally shaped rocket fish. Dharma perfect board up to head high or a little larger, but higher tide/slopey waves. Diamond fish great for everything, but not the best paddler if it is drifty and I have to take off late with it so it's not the best in crowds. 6'2" has a lot of foam so it can handle everything and get in early. Probably the most versatile (so I should just bring that one). Also, we are camping in Pismo through Sunday night and want to head north and camp further up there Monday night. Fly out of SF Tuesday late morning. Traveling in a small RV so looking for a campground north. Any suggestions? Thanks!
104012 2800 California - Second weekend in October 17 SdSurferguy Sep 21, 2016 2016-09-21T05:24:09-0400 Not a campground but I love this place. Cheap and gorgeous views. http://www.norcalhostels.org/montara
104022 2800 California - Second weekend in October 18 SdSurferguy Sep 21, 2016 2016-09-21T06:52:38-0400 For a campground you can check out Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Beautiful scenery between Santa Cruz and San Jose. The road out of the park to SJ is narrow, but in a small RV or camper you should be fine. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=540
104025 2800 California - Second weekend in October 19 sonOsea Sep 21, 2016 2016-09-21T07:25:01-0400 If your plan is to travel on the one, we love Morro Dunes R/V park http://morrodunes.com/morro_dunes/index.html Surf is just across the street or a short walk or drive north or south. It's not that far up the coast from Pismo though. Plaskett Creek campground is also a favorite. http://www.recreation.gov/camping/plaskett-creek-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70161 Sand Doller beach is a short hike away, and just the location makes surfing there a great experience. Enjoy
104043 2800 California - Second weekend in October 20 garagefull Sep 21, 2016 2016-09-21T10:56:15-0400 This place is about a mile from a popular beach break. If the beach isn't working, you're only 15 minutes from Santa Cruz point waves. http://koa.com/campgrounds/santa-cruz/
