10003 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 1 Surfertom Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T08:43:27-0400 Seeing the other string about the wax designs and the pics there that show some boards with no wax on the nose of the board sparked me starting this topic. I "guess" I understand not waxing the nose on a short board (I used to anyway), but I REALLY don't get not waxing the nose area on a long board. Even if you don't ride the nose, you do have to grip it there occasionally and I can't imagine just leaving it slick. Let us know if you do, don't and if you don't, why the heck not? ST

10006 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 4 rapier_96 Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T09:45:55-0400 After seeing the wax jobs from the other thread, I think with the hard edge of the wax I'll be waxing on my size 11's right on the nose where my feet should go.

Click to expand... You can't imagine how much I chuckled at this comment. I am trying not to offend anyone that really feels strongly abbout NOT waxing the nose, but I have to agree that it makes no sense at all to me. I see guys around in the water that leave almost 1.5-2 feet unwaxed on a 9'+ board and it baffles my little mind. ST
10009 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 6 dougirwin13 Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T11:00:04-0400 I often go pretty light waxing the nose in winter because down here you don't surf winter without booties... Not for very long, anyway Can't think of any other reason... No wax at all could be pretty funny to watch I did wax a mate's nose once with soap (well, "mate" is a stretch). -doug Compsand.com!
10010 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 7 surflugen Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T11:08:59-0400 There has been a very high "K" factor at Bolsa Chic this sumer and I have seen so many things that just baffle the mind. People in the water with thier spring suites on with the zipper in front (l can't believe they got to the water without someone trying to help them out), people waxing a board with no wax out in the mid day sun wondering "why doens't the wax stick", guys walking out to the water with only the middle third of their long board waxed. I knew to stay away from that last guy, and he was wondering why it was so hard to get to his feet.
10011 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 8 Benny Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T11:19:02-0400 Backwards is bad enough, but I saw a guy at my beach with his wetsuit both backwards & inside-out. Red-taped seams, zipper flap sticking out, bunched-up knee pads along the backs of his legs... Just like the old Far Side cartoon: "How nature says do not touch. "
10013 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 9 creoque? Jul 26, 2007 2007-07-26T11:27:39-0400 they don't wax the nose 'cause they shred the gnar from the tail........................... that's why

You just wait until your ole and grey and require 'Depends' under that probable O'Neil wetsuit you wear while trying to shag a wave at 38th.

10025 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 14 Chilly Willy Jul 27, 2007 2007-07-27T01:33:37-0400 I don't wax my nose because I like to conserve wax. What if there's a big wax shortage?!?! You think the Clark Foam incident was rough... just wait until Mr. Zog suddenly shuts down his wax production plant!!!!! Just kidding. Of course I wax my nose. A few months ago, I was stepping up for a noseride when I hit a slick spot on my board right around the trim area. My entire body slid right up to a perfect fiver and stopped thanks to my plentiful waxing of the nose before paddling out. Nice!
10026 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 15 NJ Longboarder Jul 27, 2007 2007-07-27T01:42:27-0400 A guy at my local break surfs around a 7'6"-8'0" hybrid/shortboard/funshape thing. He doesn't wax the nose, which is fine by me for the style of board, but he doesn't wax the back 18" inches. I've watched him surf and he just pops up with his feel in the midpoint of the board and never moves his back foot back over the tail. He surfs from the middle of the board the whole time and actually does half decent, just never a cutback or turn that requires the rear foot to be over the fins. To each his own, but the guys tries to catch everything and can be a bit lippy, so I am not too fond of him. He is an older gentleman, so I guess he is just set in his ways and I should respect my elders or I can just pretend to be deaf whenever the guy speaks. I choose option 2. Sometimes the "sorry, I had water in my ear and I don't think I heard you correctly" helps people rethink their previous statments. If you ever hear that from me, it just means I didn't like the noise that is coming out of you mouth.

Pretty impressive,,,except fot the old people. One old coot had his cathetar piss bag hanging over his belt and exposed on his hip. Gak. Then at the dessert area this one old bag took a spoon and scooped up some crap ( looked liked bread pudding,,gag),,dumped it on her plate,,,then took her finger and ran it in the scoop of the spoon to get it all off,,,then put the spoon back and smiled at me and caned herself away. Aint never been back. I can't wait to get old

Click to expand... I've seen what I think is a lady on a bodyboard there. Full suit, hood, booties, and gloves. We're just about at 70* water temp here guys. Lots of interesting folks on this strech of beach.
10030 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 19 neighbor Jul 27, 2007 2007-07-27T03:41:03-0400 It saves money on wax It allows admirers to see more of the intricate pinstriping and swirly paint I paid so much for Most importantly, it reduces swing weight
10031 134 Why do some folks skip waxing the nose? 20 nedsurf Jul 27, 2007 2007-07-27T03:53:40-0400 Geesh! Who's nose is hairy enough to need waxing anyway? As I've gotten old I have noticed a few hairs on my ears, but I just yank those dudes right out. You kids don't know nothin. This week at Sano - saw 3 with hood/hat-booties-gloves-fullsuit combo. 4 collisions. Lots of flying boards. Also noticed the two young blond ladies in flesh colored bikinis at Old Man's. Ah summer!
