As previously expounded, the OG 6'1\" has been a revelation, and remains so. Did my best surfing at Bu on the same EAST swell, but scored a quiet (relatively), clean early AM on 7/4, full death bed sesh. A couple subsequent beach break go outs & seeing some of the accentuated outline curve shapes he was doing for AUS power had me wondering if I could split the diff and work out something that could handle a bit more wave face curve, and a more vertical approach (good HB, Emma, zuma, etc). In a convo with Ellis on his CA stop we discussed the function of the edge as a tool to cut more lift / forgiveness into the attack rocker (what's on rail when dropping in) while retaining the overall full / flat deck rocker. A 50/50 US / AUS outline curve and arc-tail allowed for a bit more continuous flow for more powerful waves & aggressive approach.\n\n\n\n2 surfs in on \"Prince\" and just an absolute bullseye. Took a couple waves to re-tool my paddle / drop in to account for a bit more rocker in edge & touch more in tail, but once dialed it just fit into the surprise chest-head combo low tide HB peaks so nicely and snapped off the bottom with more verticality while retaining all the LK feelzzz (drive, hold, vim, vigor, weird stares from the uninitiated). Popped the fins on a snap (a surprise to all of us involved, trust), and then the real lightbulb came on a solid left that popped up. Had felt some directional stickiness going backside on the OG, but gaahhhhhhdamn, this thing just fit so perfectly in the pocket backside, had no stickiness after a nice whiippaawww, and held speed through a full backside roundhouse, a move that usually goes flaccid around the 3/4 mark on most (all) other boards in my experience (operator error). It projected in and out of the turn, hit the wash and popped out onto the shoulder, rider and board smiling ear to ear, edge to edge. A slop 2' Zuma windswell sesh that was just all giggles and speed continued my joy parade, and only buries the LK knife in my heart. Ellis is as much an artist as a scientist, marrying the functional, aesthetic with a touch of cosmic aquatic voodoo mixed in that won't quit delivering da froth. I remain yours, eternally devoted to the Kite Life. \n\n\n    \nView attachment 103467\n\n\nView attachment 103469\n\n\nView attachment 103471\n\n\nView attachment 103473\n\n\n\n\nClick to expand...\n\n\n\n\nHow do you like the arc tail? I asked him the differences between the swallow and arc. Thought I would share his response below.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArc. Just a little more area back there, helps with planing at low speed. subtle vee exist through the tail that should create a smal high pressure between the fins and centralise the feeling of the quads. Built to roll around in the pocket and have that ball bearing feeling.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSwallow. Straighter rail line through the tail, more Glide and flow , sort of load up and release feel. Water exits earlier through the tail so has a shorter board feel.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAesthetics are a lot of it, bottom curve remains super similar and overall outline only differs in width/length."]], "columns": ["post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body"], "primary_keys": ["post_id"], "primary_key_values": ["390855"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7339000003412366, "license": "Public Domain"}
