Surfing is only “dying” in SoCal(or other mega popular places). Up here right now it’s about 5 years past the golden years with plenty more great years to come. Same with places like Ireland, Norway or other cold surf places.

Wetsuits are warm and comfortable. I surf with friends but it’s rarely crowded. If it is crowded, only about 20% of the crowd is competent surfers, so it’s usually still really easy to get wave. I mostly surf beach break and the barrier for entry to get past the white wash is generally pretty high. So that helps. Yes it does get crowded sometimes and some people get in the way but I usually have a two chat rule starting with, “hey I mean this in the nicest way possible but, you did X, or what you did was unsafe or rude” usually that settles it. Chat two is more firm but still polite. If something requires a third talking to then let the situation dictate the response.

I thankfully got to surf some bucket list places this year, Honolua, Rincon, and a really nice wave in Ireland. All of which everyone was super chill and nice. I wasn’t there on the day of days but good days for sure. Respect gets respect.

I did hear some agro guy asking an intermediate women surfer where she was from then where she was born when I was at Rincon and it was not a good look. 10/10 would not recommend. She didn’t do anything wrong and was just sitting on the inside waiting to turn on waves others didn’t want.

I can imagine if you got to experience the glory days of SoCal then how it is down there now could seem like it’s been had.
post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body
post_id
335755
