DMV fees are triple what they are in Oregon. It's illegal to be high. It's illegal to talk shit to people. It's illegal to have an unloaded handgun in your truck if the case isn't locked. It's illegal to have a certain stock or magazine. It's illegal to be Brown or Black in a group. Traffic is getting worse every day. There are broken bumpers blocking lanes of traffic and wannabe bikers trying to start fights with people who don't lose a mirror off their truck on the medianwall to let them lane split. Gavin is a shitbag. Property values are fucked partially because of short term vacation rental pricks. Unless you're rich, been here a long time or live way inland, you're likely to live in a much smaller dwelling than elsewhere. Parking is impossible many places. There are fuck all drug treatment centers, fuck all harm reduction shelters and fuck all mental health services. Gas is expensive as fuck. We have more people in prison than any other state in the union. Prison guard unions direct public policy. For all its fake environmental hype, oil and gas exploration and fracking are largely Texas level unregulated. They put dangerous natural gas compressors next to elementary schools and build suburban neighborhoods over nuclear waste dumps. Toxic chemicals are sprayed with impunity as long as there's warning labels on every little thing. It's Chinatown all day every day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1) And there's no place else I'll live in this country\n. LA is one of the top three cities in the world. Once you leave West LA (which is what most people envision when they hear \"LA\" and also the least representative area) the food gets excellent, the people are hella nice and we have the best punk scene and book scene and goth scene in the world (Bandung might beat us for punk but we'd be a close second anyway.) there is stellar theatre and indie film and lucha libre. Wages are three times what they are where I come from. You can surf every single day. There are plenty of empty waves if you know where to look.\n 2) There aren't Nazis with guns showing up to schoolboard meetings or jumping out if of trucks to beat up teenage lesbians.\n The backcountry is way more wild than the Pacific NW with almost no roads once you get uphill. \n3)\n \nAnd many of the shittiest people have moved off to ruin Oregon and Washington or find out their new neighbors in Montana or Georgia hate their guts and that red and white license plate\n. It's an imperfect paradise in all the best/worst ways\u2026\n        \n\n\nClick to expand...\n\n\n\n\nOk, let's see...fantastic post for sure.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1) I understand these sentiments more than you know.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2) By Nazi's, do you mean law enforcement or civilians? We may agree or disagree on this part, but that's alright. I am ok with disagreements. This is the new world in which we live. Revolutions always happen when the people start to be told what to do a little too much.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3) I think ALL of them came to Texas and yes, it has made it pretty shitty here where it used to be glorious. You really CAN tell the difference in attitudes on the road and traffic....and grocery stores, and ETC....you get my point.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll of what you said resonates deep. I'll reread and prolly post another response or two. My two things are 1) that I do NOT listen to media and 2) I have always known the differences exist. The question is how much can one shield themselves and ignore the shit and how much does REALLY have to put up with it?"]], "columns": ["post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body"], "primary_keys": ["post_id"], "primary_key_values": ["299265"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.6309099990176037, "license": "Public Domain"}
