Our area has nearly doubled in rent in the last 5 years, and home prices are astronomical and continuing to grow. High mortgage rate rises don't mean anything to buyers paying cash, and the low inventory keeps demand high. Most of our new neighbors are from LA and the Bay Area. I went to a tour/talk at a reputable SD nonprofit org last week and the director said the greatest issue for their organization is lack of affordable housing. All of the flaws they are trying to fix (lack of medical care, elder care, homelessness, drug addiction, food insecurity, immigration etc) always come back to lack of affordable housing. And not much can be done about it. When people leave we know they'll likely never be able to afford to come back.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe good reality: If you managed to get in early, or get creative, or push yourself hard enough, you can live in San Diego County. I shared waist/chest high cylinders in a 3/2 with \n@B2Lose\n and \n@glider_boy\n this morning, and it was nearly empty (\nand maybe a bit closed out). \nI'm eating a California burrito as I type this, and it's 70* today Dec 4th.\n        \n\n\nClick to expand...\n\n\n\n\nWell, truth be told, the last 3 years I was there, we were full time RVing in a giant toyhauler through grad school and it was very doable. I rented a house in O'Side before that for a very affordable amount through the 2000s, but divorce did away with that life. Hell, I might do the RV thing again if I wanted to. The family loved it. My daughter and wife often want to go back to it. It was a simpler type of existence, but even RV living became pretty difficult and expensive. I just looked at RV parks in the area. The cheapest one in Vista is $1675 per month out of season and goes to $1875 per month in season. It's just the price you pay for all the other amenities. One also has to move for 24 hours every 6 months and then wash, rinse, repeat. Now we live in your typical 3/2 and have some land and acreage, and it is very nice. I believe everything you just laid out and agree that there is nowhere else really that one can have a typical day like that. I appreciate the input."]], "columns": ["post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body"], "primary_keys": ["post_id"], "primary_key_values": ["299172"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.5530400012503378, "license": "Public Domain"}
